Zachary Kipwell serves as a model to whom children can relate because in their day-to-day lives, they also deal with many of the same kinds of feelings and problems as him. Like many other children, Zachary is sometimes uncertain whether he is doing things as well as he could be, experiences difficulties regulating his intense feelings, and gradually learns valuable lessons from his experience. In Zachary Kipwell and the Two-Far Away Adventure, Zachary learns that the key to experiencing joy is not in always wanting something bigger or better than what he has now; it’s learning how to appreciate what he already has. In the next book in the series, Zachary Kipwell and the Big Yell, Zachary’s focus has shifted to helping children understand that anger can be a challenge to manage, as he is taught pointers on learning self-regulation. Each of the books in this series teaches children to understand and manage their real-life emotions and helps them realize that their feelings are normal and that they are not the only ones who have been faced with learning how to manage those feelings.
“Zachary Kipwell reminds children that it’s okay to feel curious, frustrated, or unsure—because growing up means learning from those feelings, appreciating what you have, and discovering that you’re never alone in the journey.”
